Kennedy Care Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
July is Disability Pride Month! Starting in 1990, Disability Pride Month initially began as a one-day celebration to commemorate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act by the U.S. government. Since then, recognition has shifted into a month-long event to celebrate and embrace disabilities, both visible and invisible, and how they contribute to our human experience.
Disabilities come in many different shapes and sizes, and often cannot even be seen. This Disability Pride Month, Kennedy Care implores you explore what disabilities truly are and how to minimize ableism, how far disability rights have come and also how far they have to go. You can start by using the resources below!
CDC’s Disability, Health and Inclusion Overview
Fighting Ableism by Stanford University
Recording Artists and Music Professionals with Disabilities (RAMPD)
We would also like to inform you all that starting this month, Kennedy Care’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee has been expanded with new members! They will meet for the first time in July and hope to provide you all with additional resources, updates and new initiatives throughout the year. Stay tuned!
